Sakhalin Filmmakers' Work To Be Discussed By Leading Film Critics

Sakhalin Filmmakers' Work To Be Discussed By Leading Film Critics August 24, 2017

On August 27th, the designated Russian Cinema day, the screenings of the Sakhalin Cinema program («In the Sea’s Embrace,» «Trapped in Ice,» and «A Salmon Lullaby») at the Komsomolets Film Theatre will be followed by a discussion entitled «The Hamburg Score.»

The panel will bring together such preeminent Russian film critics as Anton Dolin (Vesti FM), Vasiliy Koretskiy (colta.ru), Mikhail Trofimenkov (Kommersant), Aleksey Artamonov (syg.ma), Yaroslav Zabaluev (gazeta.ru), Egor Moskvitin (Ogonyok), Konstantin Shavlovskiy (Kommersant Weekend), as well as filmmakers featured in the program (Dmitriy and Denis Moiseev, Aleksandr Zarchikov, Dmitriy Kovalyov, Frederick Lorsan) and other guests of the festival.

The panel will be moderated by Aleksey Medvedev, Director of Programming at the 7th On the Edge Film Festival.

Screenings start at 4:30 pm.

The Russian expression «the Hamburg score» was coined by Viktor Shklovsky, who in the titular book related an anecdote he had heard from the famed circus wrestler Ivan Poddubny: «The Hamburg score is a very important concept. All wrestlers cheat in matches and fall on their shoulder blades at the behest of the entrepreneurs. But once a year wrestlers gather at a pub in Hamburg. They wrestle behind closed doors and curtained windows. It is a long, hard, and ugly fight. But this is the only way to determine their true worth—to prevent them from getting corrupted.»
