The filmography of the German documentary and experimental filmmaker Harun Farocki (1944-2014) includes over 90 films.
Within the context of the retrospective show we will screen several most significant films, including his last work “Sauerbruch Hatton Architects”, that has not been shown in Russia yet.
The maker of problem documentary films and a winner of several international festivals, Farocki described his directing method as a way to document “the industrialization of human mind”, that is the invasion of technology and artificial devices into the human thoughts and feelings. He used editing technique in his films in order to comment on the society, which is oversaturated by comments, and the very idea of it seems industrial.
Besides its director’s works, Harun Farocki is known as a mentor of the first generation of so-called Berlin School (or New German Wave). Farocki worked as a screen-writer with Christian Petzold, a famous director. Their films “Phoenix” (2014), “Barbara” (2012) and others were recognized by a number of festivals and gained a lot of prizes, including the awards of the Berlinale, Hong Kong, Beijing and other International Film Festivals, and a nomination by the European Film Academy.
